Lift-Up receives grant for Children’s Food Program, Housing Needs Fund

Lift-Up of Routt County has received a $25,000 Daniels Fund grant to support its Children’s Food Program and Housing Needs Fund.

Lift-Up of Routt County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides charitable assistance to meet basic human needs while promoting personal growth and self-sufficiency. Lift-Up operates its Emergency Assistance and Food Bank Program out of locations in Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Oak Creek, in addition to running the Community Thrift Store in Steamboat.

“The grant will enable our program to help families avoid homelessness and ensure that low-income children do not go hungry,” Lift-Up Executive Director David Freseman said.

Through the Children’s Food Program, approximately 180 children will access food “backpacks” during the 2013 summer program, and a minimum of 150 children will access the “backpacks” during the 2013-14 academic school year.

About 30 to 50 families will access the Housing Needs Fund for rent assistance. The expected outcome is that ninety percent or more of clients receiving rent/mortgage assistance will remain living in their home and be current on payments when contacted by Lift-Up staff three months after receiving assistance.

Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television known for his kindness and generosity to those in need, established the Daniels Fund to provide grants and scholarships in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. For more information, please visit www.danielsfund.org.

Freseman added that Lift-Up has had a great relationship with the Daniels Fund over the years, noting that the Daniels Fund provided a $100,000 capital grant to help Lift-Up build the Lufkin Lift-Up Center.
