Lift-Up BackPack Program in full swing for fall

Lift-Up of Routt County’s BackPack Program is part of a national program to make sure low-income children receiving free or reduced-cost lunches during the school week have enough to eat over the weekend. We currently are serving elementary school-age children in Hayden, Steamboat Springs, and South Routt.

Fully funded by Lift-Up (and the addition of possible grants), the local BackPack Program goes above and beyond its national counterpart, providing three well-rounded meals with fresh fruit and vegetables for Saturday and Sunday each week instead of the minimum two meals.

Elementary school-age children qualify for the program if they receive free or reduced-cost lunches at school. Lift-Up’s BackPack Program currently serves 35 students at Soda Creek Elementary School, 52 at Strawberry Park Elementary School, 30 at South Routt Elementary School, and 29 at Hayden Valley Elementary. These numbers are increasing weekly as more families learn about the BackPack Program.
