The summer lunch program, which was launched this year by Lift-Up of Routt County, has wrapped up for 2012. Thanks to generous donations from the Steamboat Ladies Group, Walmart, Ace Hardware, The Egg & I, Dollar Tree, City Market, Safeway, and countless individuals, as well as the support of the community and our faithful volunteers who packed the bags each week, the program’s first year was a resounding success.
In total, 153 children in Routt County were enrolled in the summer lunch program, with 119 coming from Steamboat, 27 from Oak Creek, and seven from Hayden. Nine hundred and twenty-four bags were given out for a total of 4,620 lunches served. Seven hundred and forty-eight bags went to Steamboat children, 125 to Oak Creek, and 51 to Hayden.
School-age children qualified for Lift-Up of Routt County’s free summer lunch program if they were enrolled in their school district’s free and reduced-cost lunch program, if their family received food stamps, or if their family income fell below 185 percent of the annual poverty guidelines.
